    Climate change – Major issue of Vietnam

    Climate change is the major problem of this Century, the symptom is the heating rising globally and the rising sea level, the unbalance of habitat – world atmosphere cause the green house effect. Vietnam is one of the nations suffer the severe consequence of climate change, rising sea level, green house effect and over-urbanization. Since, many experts has alerted about the impact of climate change on Vietnam and require the immediate solutions.

    Phát triển bền vững là định hướng tương lai của các quốc gia trên thế giới, dựa trên 3 yếu tố: phát triển kinh tế, phát triển xã hội và phát triển môi trường. Trong đó, phát triển môi trường đang là vấn đề nóng bỏng trong thời đại mới.

    Sustainable development which is the future directions of nations around the world, based on 3 criteria: economics development, social development and environmental development. All of above, environment is the hot debate topic in the modern world.

    Accodring to the forecasting report of Department of Natural Resources and Environment that recently announce, so the average number for the period 1980 – 1990, the forecasting ration about climate change is significant, In detail:

    – The air temperature: the worst assumption (greenhouse admission increase). Until year of 2100 the global temperature would increase 3.1 – 3.6oC in Northern and Middle Northern, 2.1-2.6oC higher in South Central Coast, Central Highlands and Southern Vietnam. The normal assumption (greenhouse emission at average rate), the ratio equal to 2.4 – 2.80C and 1.6-2.00C.

    – The rising sea level:  sea level at average increase 30 – 33 cm in 2050 and 74-100 cm in 2100

    The statistical data forecast the hurry of climate change in Vietnam. The sustainable development which is the long-term solution and selected by number of nations to solve the climate change. Sustainable development based on some criteria: the urban appropriate use natural resources, appropriate consumption of natural resources and energy, downgrade of exhausts; urban infrastructure is completed and modern, especially the water supply system, sewage, wastewater treatment, “green” energy.

    After 320 years of formation and development, Saigon – Ho Chi Minh City used to be known as “The Pearl of The Far East” belonging to Indo-Chinese region for culture, economy, society and unique architecture, East-West urban and typical river area. For decades, the urbanization causes the challenges in environment quality, technical infrastructure – social overload, culture and imported architecture style, the negative transformation of typical urban shape, under the impact of climate change that obscures the original image of the City and hardly identify.

    Assoc. Prof. Dr. Johannes Widodo – Director of Tun Tan Cheng Lock Center about Urban architecture and Asian urban at Melaka (Malaysia) and General Editor of JSEAA (Architecture of ASEAN magazine of Architectural Faculty, National University of Singapore).

     He received his first professional degree in Architecture from Parahyangan Catholic University (Bandung, Indonesia, 1984), Master of Architectural Engineering degree from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium, 1988), and PhD in Architecture from the University of Tokyo (Japan, 1996) in the area of Architectural and Urban History.

    He is the founder of mAAN (modern Asian Architecture Network) and iNTA (International Network of Tropical Architecture). He has been serving as a jury member for UNESCO Asia Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation, member of ICOMOS International Scientific Committee and Shared Heritage Committee, founding member and director of ICOMOS National Committee of Singapore.

    Dr. Ngo Minh Hung has more than 23 years of experience in researching, practical teaching and project managing in architectural heritage conservation, Architecture and Construction; urban and rural planning; Environment in Vietnam, Singapore and Thailand, simultaneously, participating in government administration, foreign business entities and non-government organization (NGO) in Vietnam. Many specialized writings are published in national and international publications; following others speech and scientific exchange in national wide and international area (USA, Sweden, Belgium Kingdom, Portugal, United Kingdom and France, Japan).

    Social Design is not a new definition in Vietnam. Nevertheless, many people misunderstand with other aspects of the society. Target and judging criteria of a design that are understood as the Social Design, which carries social value for serving purpose, regenerating society.

    In the developing periods of history, human is   always competing about territorial rights, economic rights. The market economy appreciates profit, so the competition become more and more intense. For profits, many manufacturers ignore their responsibilities of conserving the environment, over exploitation of natural resources, cut-off price at all cost. The prolonged circumstances. For decades, the natural devastation rate becomes global scale reach the danger alert, many social organizations call for actions, together protecting the natural environment and living habitat, reducing living condition gap between social classes.

    There are still many points of views on Social Design are discussed in recent 10 years. In the developing countries like Vietnam that the design is still at early stage, the Social Design has number of problems required deeper research in training as well as practical implementation. In April 2019, Industrial Fine Arts Faculty of Van Lang University hosted international scientific conference SOCIAL DESIGN – VIETNAM DESIGN TREND 2025 giving the expectation to the contributed discussion of international specialists and national fellows, Vietnamese Social Design receives the positive rate over social aspect, developing according to international design trend and earn a position in international design industry, which influences to the national development and its educational industry.

    The Conference included in the chain of Arts Workshop and IADW international Design 2019 Competition of Industrial Fine Arts Faculty of Van Lang University, which have the participation of authority, associations, experts, designers and businesses from Australia, Korea, Netherland, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand accompanying with experts, designers from Vietnam.

    The Conference of Biotechnology (CNSH) occur in the context that Van Lang University is hosting the chain of activities of VL25 International scientific search. For the spirit, Biotechnology host international scientific conference with the topic “Applied Biotechnology” start from the mission of profession, focusing on 3 applied directions of students in agricultural producing, food, medicine and pharmacy.

    The Conference is the scientific connection between Biotechnology lecturers and other institutions, University, international and national business entities; among lecturers, students, scientists and farmers. The Environment and Biotechnology Faculty host the discussion session with the purpose of create and develop academic exchanging environment, share experience, idea on applied researchin activities, expand cooperation relationship and collaborative training with authorized departments, business and farmers.

    3. The Anh Dao Industrial and Agricultural Zone brought the topic “Biotechnology save Wax Coconut Embryo and researching Wax Coconut procedure” – the hot topic in coconut industry in Vietnam. The topic has the involvement of Ms Nguyen Thi Tuong Vi, General Director - Alumni from the 14thgeneration of Van lang University

    Vietnam’s Tourism in the globalizing context

    Tourism is the important industry in the economy of nations. In recent decades, tourism stormily develop around the world, anyplace human can step which may become the touristic points such as train, flooting house. From the famous, developed city like Paris, London, New York, Washington, Tokyo, Beijing, etcs to the ancient sites like Eygyptian Pyramid, Collosum, Angkor Temple, etc. From the sand dunes or Great Mediterranean to the highest mount Himalaya in Nepal, etc. all become the touristic point.

    Tourism positively contribute to the development – Vietnamese Society. Globalization creates change, especially in rural area that approaches and participate into international environment , increasing customer’s source, capital, experience, information and technology; participating in the chain of globalization of service supplying toward tourists; promote the local culture identity.

    Besides that, there are rising problems for public tourism in the globalization context, such as the competitions between domestic company with foreign business; limited economic scales, vision; difficulty in conserving identity, monopoly advantage at local area; obscurely define the core value, reality, origin of attractive tourism: culture, rural habitat, agriculture, cuisine, traditional crafting village, lifestyle, etc. that create the increasing value for tourism products.

    Globalization of tourism is not only global tourism, but also the development of tourism following international standard, which are described by serving style, routine standard; cultural attitude and habitat. Thus, globalizing tourism which is not same as eliminating the uniqueness of a specific culture but forming the distinct way of thinking about globalization about respects, protection, conserve the typical value of culture and habitat, so it creates the motives for sustainable development of tourism.

  • IADW2019 exhibition commence at 16h30 on 12/4/2019 at the LV Building, 3rd Campus of Van Lang University. The last activities of VL25 series of activities successfully closed by the opening of the paintings exhibition of the Arts subcommittees, with 83 painting from 70 artists come from 10 different countries in the world.
